What you need

  1. A food safety certificate. For example ServSafe, or another certificate your state accepts. We need the certificate number and the date it expires.
  2. The right food license for how you cook. This is the part that matters most, see below.
  3. Liability insurance is recommended. Kitchens that upload it get an Insured badge.

Which license do you need?

The law depends on where and what you cook. Foodee asks which kind you hold and checks it. We cannot give legal advice, so confirm your situation with your state or local health department.

Licensed food establishment, caterer, or commissary kitchen

This is the usual route for hot meals, meal prep, party trays, and catering. You cook in a licensed kitchen. If you rent time in a licensed commercial kitchen, you need your own food establishment license to sell what you make there.

Cottage Food Operator license (Connecticut)

Connecticut lets licensed cottage food operators make shelf-stable foods in their own home kitchen, like baked goods, jams, and granola. Your license lists the exact products you may make, there is a limit on yearly sales, and the state has to approve your home kitchen first. Foods that need refrigeration are not covered. On Foodee, cottage cooks can only list dishes marked shelf-stable.

How verification works

1

Upload your documents

A PDF or a clear photo. They stay private. Customers only see that you are verified.

2

A person checks them

We look up your certificate and review your license, usually within one business day.

3

You go live

Once approved and your menu is ready, customers can find you.

4

We remind you to renew

You get emails 90, 60, and 30 days before anything expires. If a document lapses, your kitchen is hidden until you upload a new one.

Money

Joining is free and there is no monthly fee. For now, customers pay you directly (cash, Zelle, or similar) after you confirm their order. Foodee will add online payments later and tell you well in advance of any fee.
